Body Wraps

If you are anything like me, then all of the different types of spa treatments sound like gibberish. The only terms I know are manicure, pedicure, facial, and massage. Pretty much everything else flies right over my head. When I heard of a body wrap, it sounded more like a sci-fi automatic strapping machine than it did a spa treatment. But that couldn't be further from the truth.

A body wrap is actually a very intense and refreshing procedure that many people are unaware of. Whether you have R&D Tax Credit Canada breathing down your neck or you need a break from surfing Oakville wedding sites and rigorous wedding planning, body wraps have many different purposes that anyone can enjoy.

Originally a body wrap was a treatment where tight bandages or plastic wrap was tightly wrapped around the body to cause quick weight loss, almost like you were being wrapped up in saran wrap in order to loose weight: very sci-fi like. But nowadays, a body wrap is more likely to be treatment where you're slathered with a body mask made of algae, seaweed, mud, clay, lotion or cream, depending on the treatment, then wrapped for 20 minutes to keep you warm. Later the product is rinsed off. The body wrap usually ends with application of lotion. This treatment is sometimes called a body cocoon or body mask.

Do you wonder what the point is being wrapped in lotion or seaweed for an hour or so? Well, body wraps serve many different purposes. The first one would be purely for relaxation and exfoliation. If you just need a break from renovating your Toronto loft or need a day off from your job as a Burlington Ontario lawyer and want to have a spa day, a body wrap is something that is very serene. But more importantly, it does wonders for your skin. Body wraps that use shea butter or any type of intense moisturizer can soften the skin and help reduce the aging process. They also have another great use for your skin. Wraps that use seaweed, algae, or mud, are detox treatments that help rid the body of toxins through metabolic stimulation. This is great if you want to start a weight loss program our quit smoking to get unnecessary toxins out of your system.

The body wrap usually begins with a salt scrub or another type of vigorous exfoliating technique. Then it's time for the application of what you will be wrapped in (seaweed, algae, shea butter, etc.). Then you will be wrapped up just like a cocoon in either some form of plastic or towels. Now, it's time to wait and relax. Be warned, that if you are claustrophobic at all this part may be tough. But just try to sit back and rest. When your time is up the wrap is removed along with the application and you either jump in a nearby shower or the therapist will rinse you off manually. Once you are good to go, lotion is usually applied to sooth and moisturize the skin. If this is something that you enjoy, it's good to get one ever six months or so to keep your skin fresh and healthy.
