Opening A New Spa

Toronto is a city well known for luxurious real estate and luxury spa locations. In the minds of most business people it's the perfect place to open a new spa business and find your dream home or condo. As you would expect, that means there are a lot of people trying to get in on the action by constructing yet more Toronto office space and fancy spas. If you are one of the many people whose future plans revolve around setting up real estate or health clubs in Toronto, you may find the following advice helpful.

Know Your Numbers

Far too many people assume that since OTHER people have opened successful business ventures in greater Toronto that it is an easy thing to do. It is not. If you have experience operating fast food franchises, Canada's business climate may be kind to you. If your only work experience is WORKING in one of said franchises, you might as well give up now. Unless you want to financially back someone competent who will do all the work you need to have a firm grasp of business and finance, which usually takes about four years at a respected university or several weeks of night classes at the adult education center if your venture will be small.

Have a Gimmick

A unique selling point is part of your business plan that will impress the bank's loan officer and get you a great mortgage rate. Toronto is full of spas. Opening a standard spa in an ocean of standard spas will quickly result in your business being buried underneath older, more established businesses with loyal client lists. How will yours be new and different? Perhaps you will offer manly services to men or follow a practically unheard-of subset of Buddhist techniques you learned about on your trip to the Orient.

Location Location Location

All real estate agents say this and for good reason. The location of your new spa is probably the single largest factor determining its success or failure. Opening your spa off the highway leading to Pearson Airport because you got a great deal on the lease is not good business sense. You need to be somewhere accessible, preferably where fashionable people hang out on a regular basis. You could also try and capitalize on the popularity of downtown luxury living by locating your spa in a new building featuring upscale Toronto lofts for sale where you could offer special rates for residents.

Advertise Advertise Advertise

It goes without saying that if you want your business to succeed you have to make sure people know it exists. To avoid laying out your precious funds unnecessarily use a targeted marketing scheme. Papering all the lamp posts from downtown to Scarborough might be less effective than a TV spot on the local Leaside cable network or a classy photo ad in the yellow pages. And, of course, make sure you have a great website, because the internet is people's first resource these days.
