Spa At Home

With the mortgage bills for their condos in Yorkville coming due, the cost of living in the city, and the recession affecting their paychecks, many people can't afford the cost of attending a day spa in Toronto. Ironically, though, these people, who are more stressed out than their well-off neighbors, are the ones who most deserve a little relaxation and pampering. If you're one of these people, you don't have to go without. You can treat yourself to a fancy spa day for a fraction of the cost of a professional spa day without ever leaving the house. We'll tell you how.

Clear the House

The most important aspect of a relaxing spa day is not having any pressure placed on you. So to schedule yourself an at-home spa day, free up the entire day from appointments and obligations so you're not worrying about finishing up in time to drive your kids to a friend's North York townhouse. Get your spouse to take the kids all day, send them for a special day out with relatives or friends, or hire a babysitter and have your day at a friend's house. Just get rid of the superfluous people.

Go Shopping

Before you can build your temporary at home spa, you need to have the right materials. If you don't, go shopping and get in a little retail therapy before the treatments begin. The lighting in most Edmonton houses is too harsh, so you'll want to make sure you've got candles to use instead. You'll also want some scented oils, creams for facials, instruments for manicures and pedicures, nail polish, and plenty of towels. You may also want some throw cloths to throw over a couch or bed to keep the fabric from being stained by creams.

Set the Mood

Set aside a room in the house for your spa. It might be the bathroom if you've got a big one, or maybe the living room. Wherever you choose, make sure there are comfy places to sit or lie down. Dim or turn off the lights and place scented candles artfully (but safely) all over. Drape furniture with cloths and set out towels. You'll also want some mood audio, such as a recording of the sea from in front of oceanfront cottage rentals in PEI or some nebulous new age music.

Invite Your Friends

Some treatments, like massages and facials, are difficult to give to yourself. That's why many women like to invite their friends over to share their special spa day in their Thornhill homes. If you're not familiar with how to do a facial or another spa treatment, pick up a book from the library and you and your friends can teach each other.
